Lew Chudd, founder of Imperial Records, with the label's star turn Ricky Nelson
'"Lew Chudd had a remarkable knack of filling distributors' warehouses with the wrong sounding records," said Johnny Vincent, President of Ace Records and a former distributor himself. It's true Lew Chudd was a business man first, and as a record man he came a poor second. On the other hand professional jealousy, and perhaps sneaking admiration, may lie behind Vincent's remarks, since in Fats Domino, Slim Whitman and Ricky Nelson, Lew Chudd had three of the hottest stars  in the 1950's and their records did not impose too much on distributors' valuable floor space.'
